Looking for a great book to read? Watch a trailer.

This week we've been inspired by book trailers.
These short films are meant to draw interest to a particular book. They are turning into entertaining artforms in their own right.
Book trailers range in sophistication from the static image with voice over to dramatic scenes with multiple characters and elaborate sets.
They transend genre.
Here are some of our favorites seperated by type:
Everyone- Pottermore Announcement from J.K. Rowling
Adult Fiction- Letters from Home by Kristina McMorris
Adult Fiction- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Adult Fiction- Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Riglers
Science Fiction- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (This one was made by a fan)
Young Adult Chick Lit- His Eyes by Renee Carter
Young Adult Thriller- Hunt for the Seventh by Christine Morton Shaw
Young Adult Horror- Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor
School Tube
has a variety of creative homages to books created by students, teachers and librarians.
The Moby Awards are a relativly new, slightly goofy celebration of book trailers.
Anyone can make a book trailer. Publishers are already on board. Some trailers are basically author interviews with a story synopsis. Others are theatrical productions.
What are your favorites?

Fun, Quick, Kid-Friendly Dessert Recipes

Just last week, I needed something quick and spectacular enough to please a 7 year old palate. Wouldn't you know, we had just the thing in our library.

Monkey Pudding and Other Dessert Recipes by Kristi Johnson has 10 tasty treats that everyone will like to look at as much as eat.

The recipe we tried is called "Campfire Cookies". However, our theme was "Wild Bird" so we shaped ours into nests and added eggs. All of our guests loved the cookies.

The book has photo illustrations of all completed recipes making it easy for young cooks to visualize. There are also photo illustrations of tools to help kids find what they need in the kitchen. Each recipe is rated for difficulty and the author recommends that an adult always assist.

There is a "Before You Begin" section, a "Kitchen Safety" section and glossaries to help the young cook.
