Thanks to everyone who joined us for Monday night's book discussion of
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley!
Publisher's Summary:
Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison, begins her adventure when a dead bird is found on the doorstep of her family's mansion in the summer of 1950, thus propelling her into a mystery that involves an investigation into a man's murder where her father is the main suspect. Our group had mixed feeling about this book. A few members loved the book, thought it was a cute, feel-good read. A few more just thought the book was so-so....and a few more
hated the book. I think all of the members agreed that it seemed very implausible that a girl of just 11 would be as knowledgable as Flavia was about science. But if you like light mysteries this book should be right up your alley; if not, stay clear!
If you did like the book and want to read more about Flavia's adventures, check out the next 2 installments in Alan Bradley's 6 part series:
