Book Club Wrap-Up

We had a lovely book club meeting last Monday. Instead of discussing a particular book we had a book show-and-tell. Book Clubbers were asked to bring a favorite holiday book, cookbook or any other kind of book to share with the group.

A big thank you to Cheryl for the delicious Chicken Cheese Ball and to Vicki for the yummy dessert bars. We had a festive time!

Here are the books that were shared by the group:

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

The Ballad Series by Sharyn McCrumb

Calling All Cooks compiled by Telephone Pioneers of America

A Child's Book of Christmas Carols by Inez Bertail McClintock, Illustrated by Masha

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows

Landscape of Lies by Peter Watson

Mary Mac's Tea Room : 65 years of recipes from Atlanta's favorite dining room by John Ferrell

The night before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore

The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore; a pop-up by Robert Sabuda

Rainwater by Sandra Brown

Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall

One of Sarah's favorite holiday books is an audiobook of A Christmas Carol that is narrated by Patrick Stewart. Unfortunately there is not a copy in the library system, but we do have the movie A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart that can be checked out.

Jan shared her momAgenda Kitchen Folio as her favorite cookbook. She uses it to collect recipes - one her son created is called "French Toast for Dummies." :-)

Thank you to everyone who came out to book club! This was our last meeting for 2010, we will next meet on January 10th, 2011.

Later this week we will post the book club titles for the first half of 2011. So stay tuned!

You Are What You Read

What books have influenced you the most throughout your life? Scholastic has a new social networking program on their website called You Are What You Read:

At Scholastic, we believe that literacy is the pathway to success and to realizing a complete life. Books play an important role in shaping who we are and who we will become. You Are What You Read provides a unique opportunity for readers all over the world to connect with each other through their shared “Bookprints,” as we celebrate the books that bind us together and make us who we are today.

Once you sign up, you’ll be able to input your Bookprint – the five books that most influenced your life. You’ll then be able to connect with others through your shared Bookprints, interact with a global community of readers, and discover new books to enjoy.

Check out what books celebrities Taylor Swift, Daniel Radcliffe, and Sarah Jessica Parker have chosen. There is also a list of authors like Judy Blume, James Patterson and Rick Riordan. You can see the 5 books that most influenced them....or sign up to make your own Bookprint!
