Wait a second....who wrote that book?

There is an interesting young adult book trend that Flavorwire has highlighted - celebrities turned YA authors:

And while we realize that many YA authors are still primarily authors, we find ourselves overwhelmed by the recent spate of random celebrities, from politicians to musicians to talk-show hosts, penning books for tween audiences.

Tyra Banks is the most recent celebrity to land a YA book deal. The first book in her series is due out in Summer 2011 and will be called Modelland. Synopsis from the publisher:

Modelland is the story of a teen girl in a make-believe society who finds herself competing for a way of life that's both hotly desired and woefully out of reach at an academy for Intoxibellas, the most exceptional models known to humankind. As the plot unfolds, readers will uncover lessons that are buried beneath the surface of this magical world.

Hilary Duff, of Disney's Lizzie McGuire fame is also going to publish a young adult series. The first title Elixer is scheduled to be released in October 2010. From the publisher:

Clea Raymond is a talented young photojournalist who has spent her entire life in the spotlight as the daughter of a Washington politician and a renowned surgeon. Haunted by the strange appearance of a mysterious young man in her photographs, Clea travels the globe with her best friends, Rayna and Ben, in a race against time to unravel a centuries-old mystery that could unlock the key to her soulmate’s true identity and the secret of her father’s disappearance–and ultimately save all their lives.

Tell us, are you excited about any of these upcoming releases? Would you read a book just because it was written by a celebrity?
